The Host’s Perspective:

First off let me explain what this book is definitely NOT. It is not one of those thousands of other self-help “personal branding” books with advice on how to be famous, become a guru, or establish yourself as an “influencer.”

In “Known,” Mark Schaefer explains that there’s only one thing that counts today, only one source of power and influence when it comes to the online world. And it is to be known.

And that’s what this book is about.

Being known is not the same as being famous. It’s not about having millions of fans and red carpet appearances. Being known is about having the proper authority, reputation, and audience to realize your potential and achieve your goals … whatever they might be.

Most of the self-help books on the subject of personal branding start and stop with “follow your dreams” or “discover your passion.”

But then what?

We live in a world filled with intoxicating mythology, like “If you can dream it, you can be it.” Just a bit of advice: don’t hang your future on a dream. You need a plan.

Finding your passions and strengths is important, but that’s the starting line, not the finish lineYou need to be known for SOMETHING in a relevant space large enough for it to MATTER. You need to create content in a way that makes a difference and builds an audience you can ACTIVATE.

While the prevailing guru-speak may urge you to ignore the rest of the world and simply follow your dream, “Known” shows you how to be smart about it, plot out a real strategy, and give yourself the very best chance to succeed.

Let me ask you something: would you rather blindly follow a dream with almost no chance of success, or save yourself those years of wasted effort by logically determining a path that gives you a higher probability of accomplishing your goals?

If it’s the latter, you’ll want to read this book.
