Eric Siegel, Ph.D. is the founder of the Predictive Analytics World conference series and executive editor of The Predictive Analytics Times. His professional mission is to make the how and why of predictive analytics understandable and captivating.

Eric is also a keynote speaker and is a former Columbia University professor who used to sing to his students.

Dr. Siegel and his book have been featured in Businessweek, CBS MoneyWatch, The Financial Times, Forbes, Fortune, Harvard Business Review, The Huffington Post, Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and now, The Marketing Book Podcast.

OK, first off don’t be frightened by the term predictive analytics.

It’s one of those terms that more and more people are talking about like “big data” or “the Internet.”

Predictive analytics is the branch of advanced analytics which is used to make predictions about unknown future events.

Predictive analytics uses techniques like data mining, statistics, modeling, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to analyze current data to make predictions about the future.

This book is not for techies and wonks, although they will enjoy it – rather, it is written for the layman like myself to demystify the wizardry and show you how predictive analytics, even just a little bit of it, can go a long way and have a dramatic impact on what your organization is trying to accomplish.

Not surprisingly, there are many uses and implications for predictive analytics in marketing.

But the book goes way beyond just marketing and shows how predictive analytics helps predict human behavior and thus helps reduce risk, boost sales, cut costs, improve healthcare, streamline manufacturing, toughen crime-fighting, and win elections.

If you like books like “Freakonomics” or anything by Malcolm Gladwell, I guarantee you will like the book “Predictive Analytics.”
